Dr. Bowen-Wells is a board-certified general surgeon and a fellowship-trained certified surgical oncologist. Over the years during her surgical calls, Dr. Bowen-Wells noticed an increase in the number of patients with severe wounds. Being a woman of faith, she prayed for the ability to successfully treat those patients and made it her mission to learn as much as she could about wounds so that she could employ and develop the most effective and efficient therapies. As with oncology, she utilizes a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to treat wound patients. Dr. Bowen-Wells recognized early the physical and emotional debilitation created by severe non-healing wounds and wanted her patients to heal so that they could return to a normal life. Dr. Bowen-Wells was equally motivated to ensure fewer amputations and more closure and limb salvage. She became board certified in wound care and remains one of few certified practitioners in the Jacksonville, Florida area.
As a highly skilled surgeon, Dr. Bowen-Wells utilizes her specialized training to assist the patient with wound closure. She incorporates both surgical and non-surgical techniques to obtain the best results and motivates and encourages patients during their treatments. Her patients are usually referred to her after receiving many failed treatments and are at the point of giving up. She treats her patients with compassion and empathy. Dr. Bowen-Wells treats diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, chronic, acute, non-healing surgical wounds, and pressure ulcers/injuries.
